CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Company Limited (herein after called ZELC for short) was founded in 1936. In 1958, ZELC successfully developed and manufactured the first main line electric locomotive in China. In 1978, it switched to electric locomotives manufacture. ZELC plays the role of the main development and manufacture base of electric locomotives in China, one of the national designated enterprises of mass transit transportation equipment localization and one of the ten symbolized enterprises in HunanProvince. The main business of ZELC is to develop, manufacture, maintain, retail and service after sale main line electric locomotives, electric multiple units (EMUs) and mass transit rail transportation equipment as well as associated parts and components. Today, ZELC employs nearly 8000 people, and owns total assets of CNY 6 billion.

ZELC owns the largest general assembly fixture for electric locomotive in the world, bogie production line, manufacture center for high-power traction motors and transformers, and test station with the most completed functions in the industry. Insisting the combination between independent development and introduction, digestion plus absorption of overseas advanced technology, ZELC continuously improves the capability of system integration. It has developed and manufactured various types of main line AC&DC high speed electric locomotives covering passenger service, both passenger and freight service and heavy load freight service, which approaches to 30 types. It has accumulatively produced approximate 4500 sets of various locomotives, accounting for 70% of Chinese railway electric locomotives. It has contributed greatly to the development of Chinese railway transportation, especially to the development of equipment for electrified railway transportation. It is titled as Capital of Chinese electric locomotives.

ZELC has completed the contract of high power HXD1 AC drive 8-axle (9600kW) electric locomotives awarded by Ministry of Railway, China, which was obtained together with Siemens in the end of 2004. In 2007, ZELC signed with MoR a Procurement Letter of Intention for high power AC drive 6-axle (9600kW) freight electric locomotives. In January 2009, high power AC drive 6-axle (9600kW) electric locomotives, which were our own independent intellectual property, rolled out of the production line. All the above achievements represent ZELC has become a system integrator for railway transportation equipment, and will be forged into a railway transportation equipment manufacturer, in a leading position among the top-ranking in the world.

ZELC has actively exploited international market, and its production has been exported to Iran, Kazakstan, and Uzbekistan etc. It has been awarded international orders for more than 120 sets of electric locomotives. As the only Chinese enterprise exporting complete electric locomotives, its international reputation more and more glorious day after day..

         Main business ---- Mass transit vehicles

In 2001, former State Development Planning Commission bestowed ZELC as the national designated enterprise formass transit vehicles localization. ZELC owned the national first rate workshops for metro carbody, assembly and commissioning, together with the supporting facilities, covering an area of 35 thousand m2, which can meet the requirement of manufacturing various types of aluminum alloy metro vehicles in parallel. During the past 8 years, ZELC has actively promoted the construction of mass transit vehicles, successively won over ten procurement contracts for metro vehicles, involving vehicles for Shanghai Pearl Line (Phase II), Guangzhou Metro Line 3, Shanghai Metro Line 1 Expansion project, Shenzhen Metro Line 1 (extension project), extension line of Guangzhou 2/8 line, Shanghai Metro Line 11, DC cars to ACsystem for Shanghai Line 1, Wuhan Metro Line 1(Phase II), as well as Guangzhou Metro Line 3 (northern extension project).

 In September 2008,the first top-grade A-type metro cars, our independent intellectual property, independently researched and developed by our company for Shenzhen Metro Line 1 (extension project), successively rolled out of the production line. It indicates that our country has successively localized the world highest technology of mass transit vehicles. The delivered cars operated well, which were highly evaluated by the experts and person in the field of railway.

With the aims of realizing “ten billion, one hundred”, ZELC is actively implementing three expansion and updating projects focusing on metro vehicles, AC drive electric locomotives and motors and transformers. After the projects put into operation, the development of electric locomotives and metro vehicles will be promoted.

With the aims of promoting the modernization of mass transit railway transportation equipment domestically and internationally, ZELC has continuously accelerated technology innovation and management innovation, researched and developed various types of transportation equipments to meet the needs of market.
